A school with lots of history

By 9th July 2012February 5th, 2024News

Ashlyns School in Berkhampstead, Hertfordshire  enjoys the benefit of modern facilities but the staff and students  are equally proud and conscious of their formal surroundings: the stained glass windows in the chapel, the beautiful staircase in the entrance hall, the carved fireplace in the old ‘boardroom’ remind them of their heritage, housing London’s foundlings.

The school’s history dates back to 1740 when it used to be a hospital.  It became Ashlyns School in 1951. Previously a Boarding School, this was phased out by 1955 and the living accommodation was converted into additional classrooms and laboratories.

To keep up with changing times, in September 1999 the school then became a Foundation School, working in partnership with the Local Authority while retaining control of the buildings and land.

All this goes to make it an incredible location for a party and Party Lights were pleased to provide their fairy light canopy for Year 11’s School Prom on the 5th July.  The organiser had this to say after the event:

“Hi Richard

Again, I must say a big thank you for the light canopy which was absolutely stunning!!  I will forward pictures to you as soon as possible. I look forward to working with you again soon.

Warm regards, Claire Charles
